minefields

Some might think it strange that I have friends I've never met in person, but I do. One such friend lives in California and is a beautiful, aspiring actress. She's the childhood best friend of one of my closest real-life friends, and that's how I know her, or know OF her. We're friends on Facebook, we've exchanged emails, and we've even talked on the phone. We know a lot about each other, and we agree that we're both pretty awesome women who would be instant friends if we lived in the same town. I can't wait to meet her someday.

So our mutual friend shared my story with her, and she replied with this last night:
Wow. It is heartbreaking, and this, I know for sure, for a fact: Stacy is amazing and worthy of love, real love, not a forced love out of a "responsibility" or something, or because "The Bible tells me so". No, she deserves a TRUE, honest, REAL love, the kind that I believe God wants for us....I don't even know Stacy, aside from some email exchanges and a phone call conversation, but you can FEEL how fantastic she is, and my heart breaks that Darren couldn't/can't feel that. I hope this can be a rebirth for her. In a way, it is a rebirth. Even if they reconcile...it will be different. Which can and probably will be a great thing.  Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure if I should contact her, or not, but if you want to, forward this, and send my love. And I thank her for sharing this. XOXO Also, good for her. She's a strong lady. And pretty doggone inspiring.

This morning, Darren emailed me from Great Wolf Lodge:

"I heard a song on the radio yesterday that I hadn't heard in a long time - "Dancing in the Minefield." I had to stop and cry for a bit, because that story should've been yours and I screwed it up. You deserve that kind of love - I'm sorry I haven't give it to you."

I was nineteen, you were twenty-one
The year we got engaged
Everyone said we were much too young
But we did it anyway

We bought our rings for forty each
From a pawn shop down the road
We made our vows and took the leap
Now fifteen years ago

We went dancing in the minefields
We went sailing in the storm
And it was harder than we dreamed
But I believe that's what the promise is for

"I do" are the two most famous last words
The beginning of the end
But to lose your life for another I've heard
Is a good place to begin
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/andrew_peterson/dancing_in_the_minefields.html ]
'Cause the only way to find your life
Is to lay your own life down
And I believe it's an easy price
For the life that we have found

And we're dancing in the minefields
We're sailing in the storm
This is harder than we dreamed
But I believe that's what the promise is for

So when I lose my way, find me
When I loose love's chains, bind me
At the end of all my faith, till the end of all my days
When I forget my name, remind me

'Cause we bear the light of the Son of Man
So there's nothing left to fear
So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands
Till the shadows disappear

'Cause he promised not to leave us
And his promises are true
So in the face of all this chaos, baby,
I can dance with you

  1. Maybe you should remind him that the story should have been his as well and the he deserves the rewards giving that kind of love brings. It's not just what you are missing out on, its also what he is missing out on -- and its not too late.
